Great Scenic Walks

Whether you enjoy a leisurely hours stroll with scenic views or an all-day expedition exploring the Lakeland fells, Hawkshead and the South Lakes has it all. The village serves as an ideal base for scenic walks and hikes, with the nearby beauty spot Tarn Hows a must see for all visitors, the panoramic views of Latterbarrow and Wray Castle and the western shore of Lake Windermere all within good walks of Hawkshead.

For those seeking more challenging  walks the iconic Old Man of Coniston and Coniston Fells (15 minutes drive), Fairfield Horseshow (20 minutes drive) and Helvellyn (30 minutes drive) to name a few of the best challenging walks all within driving distance of Hawkshead.

I have set up a list of OS maps for all of the Lakes, walking guides on the app All Trails for local walks starting from Hawkshead. This free and user-friendly app provides live maps to guide you along footpaths, like using a car’s satellite navigation on your phone.

You can also check out our video guides of the local walks on our Lakes Lodges YouTube channel, I’ll be uploading more throughout the summer as well as other local activities to do.

I just ask that you please bear in mind the countryside code and take home everything you bring on a walk, respect the environment and keep dogs under control especially around livestock.
